Product Description
Turbidity is a measure of how cloudy water is due to the presence of suspended particles such as silt, clay, organic matter, plankton and microorganisms. Turbidity sensors or meters for industrial use are costly and not suitable for electronic product design. Therefore, we have chosen a turbidity sensor that is commonly used in household appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers. The sensor works on optical principles and evaluates the turbidity by the light transmittance and scattering rate in the solution. The sensor has an infrared tube inside. When light passes through a certain amount of water, the amount of light that goes through depends on how dirty the water is. The dirtier the water, the less light it lets through. The light receiver converts the intensity of the transmitted light into a corresponding current value. More light means more current. Less light means less current.
The turbidity sensor module transforms the current signal from the sensor into a voltage signal and performs AD conversion data processing with a microcontroller. The module has both analog and digital output interfaces. The analog output can be sampled and processed by the microcontroller’s A/D converter to know the current water pollution level. The digital output can be adjusted by the potentiometer on the module to set the trigger threshold. When the turbidity reaches the threshold, the D1 indicator will turn on, the output of the sensor module will change from high to low, and the microcontroller will monitor the level change to determine whether the water turbidity exceeds the standard and take actions such as warning or linking other devices. The module is inexpensive, easy to use, and has a high measurement accuracy.
It can be used to measure the water pollution level of products such as washing machines.

The composition of the turbidity sensor module is shown below. The module is connected to the turbidity sensor through the 3Pin XH-2.54 connector. Adjust the knob of 10K blue potentiometer to adjust the trigger threshold of digital output.
The module pin definitions are as follows:
- VCC: Positive supply voltage, 5V cannot be used 3.3V
- AO: analogue signal output, output voltage range 0~5V
- DO: digital signal output is less than the set value and outputs high level; greater than the set value and outputs low level
- GND: negative supply voltage
- Module size: 38.6mm*22.1mm
