This is a 15mm Piezo Buzzer. It can be used to create custom pickups for various stringed and percussion instruments. A pickup is a device that converts the vibration of the strings or the drum into an electric signal. Adding a pickup to your cigar box guitar or other project can enhance its sound quality and make it more appealing to potential buyers.
A piezoelectric transducer is a device that converts mechanical force into electrical output. It is made of quartz crystal, which contains SiO2. Piezoelectric crystals have no net electric charge. The atoms inside the crystals are arranged in an asymmetrical way, but their electric charges cancel out.
When a force is applied to stretch or bend the crystal, an electric voltage is generated. When there is no force, no voltage is produced. When there is a force, positive charges appear on one side of the crystal and negative charges on the opposite side. The crystal compresses as the force is applied.
